Qarabag head coach Gurban Gurbanov has assessed today’s draw for the UEFA Champions League play-off round, Apasport.az reports.
The experienced specialist shared his thoughts on Newcastle, who will face Qarabag:
“I wish the draw brings good fortune and success to our team and our fans. With each stage we progress, we come up against more serious opponents. Newcastle drew 1-1 with PSG in the final round of the league phase. Therefore, we can say that the strengths of both teams are roughly equal. Playing against a Premier League club always requires extra effort. They are a very serious opponent. We will try to put in a good performance and prepare well. Because the English Premier League is the strongest championship in the world. There is not such a big difference between teams there. Any team can beat another. It is also possible to see 3-4 goals in every match. Newcastle is a serious opponent. We will try to prepare well for the match and get to know our opponent more closely. But Newcastle are not weaker than any of the other possible opponents at this stage—they have their own distinct playing style and are a very fast team.”
