Executive Director: We will raise India’s violence against minorities to the UN and international organizations

The Indian government’s policy of violence and discrimination against religious and ethnic minorities should be properly communicated to the international community and responded to accordingly, said Abbas Abbasov, Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), at the international conference held in Baku on “Racism and Violence Against Sikhs and Other National Minorities in India: The Reality on the Ground,” APA reports.

He noted that the conference was attended by prominent representatives of the Sikh community in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, as well as heads of international think tanks and scholars from foreign universities working in the fields of human rights and ethnic minorities. Abbas Abbasov said that the conference was the Group’s first event to address the impacts of the discriminatory policy against ethnic minorities.

According to him, the conference provided an opportunity for the voices of individuals who are direct victims of the Indian government’s repressive, racist, and persecutory policies to be heard internationally.

“As an international non-governmental organization, we will raise this issue to the UN and other relevant international organizations,” Abbas Abbasov added.
