The Trump administration has demonstrated a strong commitment to the peace agenda of Azerbaijan and Armenia, said Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan - Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan to The Washington Post, APA reports.
He said that the US leader's detailed engagement with the issue is a commendable act.
Hikmet Hajiyev also pointed out that ongoing restrictions imposed by the United States against Azerbaijan work against peace.
The presidential assistant emphasized that Azerbaijan and Armenia are working to strengthen peace, but completely unnecessary legislative acts are being proposed against Azerbaijan in the US Congress.
"Unfortunately, there were many misunderstandings between us and the Biden and Blinken administrations, and these disagreements have greatly damaged our relations," Hikmet Hajiyev noted.
Speaking about the export of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia, Hikmet Hajiyev said that this may seem like a symbolic step, but along with the symbolism, there are very important geopolitical connotations here.
“We are not just making peace with the Armenian government, but also with the Armenian people,” the presidential aide said.
