A preventive measure of detention has been imposed on Georgia’s former Minister of Defense, Bacho Akhalaia, APA’s local bureau reports.
The decision was adopted at a closed session of the Tbilisi City Court.
The court granted the motion filed by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia.
Akhalaia is charged with organizing and leading group violence in connection with the storming of the Georgian president’s palace in Tbilisi on October 4 of this year, the day of the municipal elections.
The alleged criminal acts carry a penalty of up to nine years’ imprisonment.
