Volodymyr Zelenskyy will submit US President Donald Trump's Ukraine conflict resolution plan to a referendum if Kyiv fails to take a strong position on ceding Donbas territory during talks with the American leader on Sunday. This was reported by the American news outlet Axios following a telephone interview with Zelenskyy, APA reports.
Zelenskyy hopes to agree with Trump on a framework agreement to end the conflict at their meeting on Sunday.
"Zelenskyy also said he was prepared to put the plan to a referendum. <...> While Zelenskyy emphasized that significant progress has been made, Trump's plan still requires Ukraine to make painful territorial concessions in the east. Zelenskyy still hopes to improve these conditions and said he would need the approval of the Ukrainian people if they fail to take a strong position on the territory," the portal writes.
