China steps in to ease Cambodia-Thailand tensions

China said it is actively mediating to reduce tensions between Cambodia and Thailand, APA reports, citing Daily Times.

Beijing is urging both sides to maintain peace and resume dialogue. The statement came amid concerns over recent border clashes.

China’s foreign ministry said it has sent a special envoy to the region. Spokesperson Lin Jian said more details about the mediation efforts will be shared later. He stressed that China will continue supporting reconciliation.

The envoy, Deng Xijun, visited Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh last week. His visit aimed to push for de-escalation between the two Southeast Asian neighbors. Border tensions have raised regional stability concerns.

China’s role reflects its growing diplomatic engagement in Southeast Asia. Beijing has called for restraint and peaceful solutions. It believes dialogue is the only way forward.

Earlier, Malaysia’s foreign minister also urged both countries to return to a ceasefire. Regional leaders continue to emphasize calm and cooperation. Diplomatic efforts are now focused on preventing further escalation.
