ADY and China Railways reach agreement to increase BTK capacity

The Memorandum of Understanding signed between Azerbaijan Railways CJSC and the China Railway State Corporation is considered an important step not only in bringing new dynamism to Baku–Beijing relations but also in ensuring uninterrupted connectivity across Eurasia, APA-Economics reports.

The document also focuses on strengthening the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway line. The two entities have agreed to develop the transport link along the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars route, which provides access to Türkiye and subsequently to Europe. Through this line, access from Chinese production centers to European markets via Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye will accelerate further.

In addition, the parties have agreed to deepen cooperation in the joint development of railway and port capabilities, expansion of container transportation across the Caspian Sea, increase in the number of daily block trains, and achieving the passage of 10 trains.

Amid these targets the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars line is turning into a high-capacity strategic transportation artery connecting East and West.

Note that in 2023–2024, modernization works were carried out by ADY on the Georgian section of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway line, which is an important segment of the Middle Corridor. This is a significant step toward increasing our country’s transit potential and enhancing the overall competitiveness of the Middle Corridor.
