The relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are of a strategic alliance nature, Member of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) Soltan Mammadov told APA.
Soltan Mammadov noted that the agreement signed between the two countries last year laid the foundation for the development of relations in all directions. The results of the visit of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Azerbaijan show that the relations are based on mutual trust: “In 2024, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan reached 252 million dollars. This is one of the main indicators confirming the strengthening of economic relations between the two countries. In 2018, the trade turnover between the two countries was 32 million dollars, and in 2023 it was 147 million dollars. Compared to 2023, a 41 percent increase was recorded last year. This reflects the dynamic development of economic relations.”
The MP emphasized that the strengthening of political and economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan ultimately gives a significant impetus to the strengthening of ties among the Turkic states: “President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev emphasized in one of his speeches that our family is the Turkic world. In this regard, the development of relations with Uzbekistan should also be approached in the context of the idea of unity of the Turkic world. Uzbekistan has always supported our country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. There is a relationship environment between our countries that allows us to discuss any issue openly and sincerely. This is one of the most important matters, especially in the current sensitive period.”
Soltan Mammadov also noted that the Investment Fund established through joint initiative is expected to make significant contributions to the development of trade and economic relations.
