Azerbaijani businessman detained in Saint Petersburg -VIDEO

An Azerbaijani businessman has been detained in Saint Petersburg, Russia, APA’s Russia bureau reports, citing RBK.

It was reported that the Saint Petersburg police detained the CEO of a construction company from a neighboring country, suspected of large-scale fraud.

Local journalists report that the businessman came from Azerbaijan.

According to information provided to RBK by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad region, the 32-year-old CEO of the construction company suspected of a series of frauds totaling more than 46 million rubles was detained in Saint Petersburg.

It was noted that a criminal case was opened under Article 159 (fraud) of the Criminal Code regarding these facts. According to the police, the accused, under the pretext of attracting investments for the construction of residential buildings and subsequently leasing them, fraudulently obtained money from three residents of Saint Petersburg. The businessman was detained at his private house on Vologodskaya Street in the village of Pargolovo.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, during the search, security forces seized documents related to real estate, mobile phones, and money (in rubles and foreign currency). According to the 78.ru portal, the detained individual is an Azerbaijani citizen. Security forces found 175,000 rubles and 500 dollars at his home. According to the publication, the detained person leads “Amurov Group” LLC, and the case concerns two episodes involving the fraud of local Saint Petersburg businessmen for amounts of 9.6 million and 22 million rubles, respectively.
