Opposition MPs suspended from Georgian parliament

Twelve members of parliament from the “Gakharia for Georgia” party have had their parliamentary mandates terminated following a decision taken at today’s plenary session, APA reports citing Georgian Public Broadcaster.

The MPs who lost their mandates are: Teona Akubardia, Ana Buchukuri, Giorgi Gakharia, Levan Gogichaishvili, Zaza Tavadze, Beka Liluashvili, Natia Mezvrishvili, Berdia Sichinava, Kakhaberi Kemoklidze, Roin Kochorashvili, Dimitri Tskitishvili, and Zviad Dzidziguri.

According to the parliamentary rapporteur on the issue, the grounds for early termination of the mandates was the party members’ failure to attend parliamentary sessions without valid reasons.

The “Gakharia for Georgia” party has also been deprived of the right to receive financial resources from the state budget for a period of six months.

Recall that in February of this year, the parliament terminated the mandates of 49 opposition MPs. Following today’s decision, the activities of opposition parties in the Georgian parliament have come to an end. The opposition does not recognize the results of the parliamentary elections held in October of last year.
