Iran’s new ambassador arrives in Azerbaijan, submits copy of his credentials

On June 25, 2025, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov received the newly appointed Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Damirchilou, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.

During the meeting, the ambassador presented a copy of his credentials to Minister Bayramov. The minister congratulated the ambassador on his appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic mission.

The sides discussed the bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda between the two countries, as well as current regional security issues, including the Iran–Israel confrontation.

It was emphasized that contacts between the heads of state and the existing political dialogue are crucial for the development of friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Iran and contribute to the expansion of cooperation through discussions on matters of mutual interest.

Azerbaijan’s position and concerns regarding the Iran–Israel confrontation were reiterated. Condolences were expressed over the deaths of the Chief of the General Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, other officials, and Iranian citizens. The importance of resolving existing issues strictly through dialogue and diplomatic means, in accordance with the norms and principles of international law, was underlined.

Gratitude was expressed to the Azerbaijani side for facilitating border crossings for Iranian and third-country nationals via Azerbaijan’s land border.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
