US urges citizens to leave Iran via Azerbaijan

The United States has once again urged its citizens to leave Iran through Azerbaijan, APA reports citing a notice published on the website of the U.S. Virtual Embassy Iran.

The embassy advised Americans to depart Iran immediately, citing airspace closures and security risks. The warning states that land borders with Armenia and Türkiye remain open, while prior approval is required to enter Azerbaijan or Turkmenistan.

It also notes that special permits will be issued for this purpose: “Official approval from the Government of Azerbaijan is required. This confirmation must be carried when approaching the border checkpoint. U.S. citizens in Iran for any reason must send their full name, date of birth, and passport details to the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan electronically to obtain the permit.”

The U.S. has issued similar warnings in the past.
