The closing ceremony of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) was held, APA reports.
Officials, UN representatives, and other guests attended the closing ceremony.
The closing ceremony began with an artistic program, and video clips were presented.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed thanked the Government and people of Azerbaijan for organizing WUF13 at a high level: “The reconstruction works carried out in Karabakh and other territories, the reintegration of communities, and the restoration of infrastructure and peace serve to transform those territories into centers of social solidarity, cultural development, and economic growth.”
She noted that one of the most important points witnessed in Baku this week was that cooperation is not only a functioning mechanism, but also an effective tool in solving major problems.
Later, WUF13 National Coordinator and Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture Anar Guliyev shared detailed information with participants about the work carried out: “The forum was at the center of international media attention. More than 1,000 accredited media representatives extensively covered WUF13, contributing to the global promotion of the importance of sustainable urbanization and international cooperation.”
Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Anacláudia Rossbach stated that Azerbaijan played an important role in the successful organization of the World Urban Forum (WUF13): “The calls voiced at the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku should become one of the main directions of the global urban development agenda. Government representatives, 88 ministers, 130 mayors, representatives of local and regional governance bodies, civil society organizations, private sector leaders, and communities united around one main idea during the forum: housing policy must stand at the center of people’s well-being.”
Later, opinions of representatives of various countries and UN officials were heard during the closing ceremony.
Following the speeches at the closing ceremony, a concert program was held.
