Dunja Kovari: Zangilan’s Master Plan is being developed in line with climate conditions

Zangilan’s Master Plan is being developed in accordance with climate conditions, the founding partner of the Swiss international urban planning and territorial development agency “sa_partners,” Dunja Kovari-Binggeli, said during her speech at the dialogue session titled “BBB Publication (TBC)” held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), APA reports.

It was noted that the main idea behind Zangilan’s Master Plan is to ensure that trees which have grown and developed over the past three decades become a core part of the city’s natural structure, while the built environment is integrated into nature:

“For this reason, a large portion of Zangilan’s existing tree cover has been placed under protection. One of the main principles of urban planning is based on ‘cold air corridors.’ This approach serves both to preserve ecological balance and to make the urban environment more climate-resilient.”

She emphasized that work is continuing based on this heritage and through the application of a contextual urban regeneration approach:

“Since a large part of the Karabakh and East Zangezur region is located in mountainous terrain, this factor has become one of the key determinants in planning.”
