Fatma Yıldırım: Active participation in the global agenda shows Azerbaijan is a responsible partner

Sustainability should form the basis not only of state policy, but also of society’s daily behavior and culture, Deputy Chair of the Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology Committee of the Milli Majlis, Fatma Yıldırım, said during the event titled “Development of Azerbaijan’s First National Sustainability Standards” organized within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), APA reports.

According to her, Azerbaijan’s active participation in the global development agenda and its support for sustainable development initiatives demonstrate that the country is a responsible partner.

“The ESPS standards presented today are an important challenge. First of all, it is essential to systematize international sustainability principles in line with Azerbaijan’s national values and implement practical measures,” she emphasized.

The MP noted that these standards envisage the implementation of measures in various areas ranging from tourism and services to public spaces and resource management:

“Environmentally sensitive attitudes, efficient use of resources, social inclusivity, and accountability are the main pillars of a strong society.”

She added that expanding legislative initiatives, strengthening measures related to energy efficiency, resource management, and environmental threats are of great importance for the future.

During the speech, it was also noted that sustainable development and “green energy” principles are being widely implemented in Azerbaijan under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.
