US President Donald Trump expressed hope for the establishment of constructive relations between Israel and the Syrian interim leadership led by Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa. He announced this on December 29, opening talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, APA reports.
"I hope he [Netanyahu] gets along with Syria because the new president of Syria is working very hard to do a good job. He really is. I know he's a tough cookie, and you know, you're not going to find a choir boy who can lead Syria. That's the only thing I can say," Trump said.
The President emphasized that the United States is interested in preserving the Syrian state, which is why the decision to lift sanctions was previously made. "I lifted sanctions on Syria because otherwise they wouldn't have a chance. We want Syria to survive, so we'll talk about Syria too," the American leader added.
