The European Union is considering accelerating the phaseout of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports following US President Donald Trump's call to abandon Russian oil, APA reports citing Bloomberg.
According to their information, the European Union plans to include provisions for a phased phase-out of Russian LNG imports in a new sanctions package, which may be presented on September 19.
The EU is also considering promoting the phase-out of Russian LNG imports through an amendment to the REPowerEU plan, aimed at ending "dependence on gas" from Russia. Details of the potential amendment are not provided.
