Volume of gas in underground storage facilities in EU countries exceeded 88 bcm

The level of filling of underground gas storage facilities in the European Union countries has exceeded 80%, APA-Economics reports, citing European Association of Gas Infrastructure Operators (Gas Infrastructure Europe, GIE).

According to the information, the level of filling of underground gas storage facilities in the EU countries is approximately 80.34% (in the corresponding period of last year it was 93.3% - ed.), which is 6.76 percentage points less than the average indicator of the last five years.

It was reported that currently the total volume of gas in the storage facilities of the EU countries is 88.4 billion cubic meters.

It should be noted that, according to the requirements of the European Commission, EU countries must ensure that their gas storage facilities are 90% full by November 1 of each year in order to ensure the increase of reserves for the winter period in case of supply disruptions or abnormally cold weather conditions.

It should be noted that the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe through the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) began on December 31, 2020.
