"I believe that whatever is achieved in this matter will be possible thanks to the strength of our state. We received the bodies of two Azerbaijanis, Ziyaddin and Huseyn Safarov, who lost their lives as a result of torture by Russian security forces, at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport. Our state showed great determination in this matter and took very serious steps. In a short time, the bodies were brought back to our homeland," Seyfaddin Huseynli, the brother of those killed during an operation conducted by the Federal Security Service in Yekaterinburg, Russia, and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the “525-ci qəzet” newspaper told jpurnalists, APA reports.
He noted that there was a crowd present to receive the bodies. People expressed their grief and anger:
"After that, a forensic medical examination was conducted by a highly professional team organized in Azerbaijan. I personally participated in the identification of the bodies. Let me briefly add that although I cannot interfere with the work of the investigative authorities, I witnessed with my own eyes that the condition of my brothers’ bodies, the severe traces of torture on them, and the numerous signs of fatal injuries clearly showed — and I say this with deep pain — that they had been subjected to brutal torture. It is a regretful fact that the initial statement given by the Russian side from the very first day — claiming that they died of heart failure due to emotional stress while in a stable condition — was a blatant lie, a fabrication characteristic of Russia’s ugly face, and this once again manifested itself before my very eyes. What follows is the responsibility of the investigative bodies. I can only say that all possible means are being mobilized to uncover the truth about this matter. Since we currently cannot return to our native village of Marzili, the farewell ceremony will take place at the house we bought in Aghjabadi. After the farewell ceremony, the funeral prayer will be performed. Then, they will be buried in the nearby cemetery where my father, mother, and close relatives are buried. There are also others who suffered serious injuries in the incident. Some of them are still in detention. A fabricated trial is being held against them. Among them is my 61-year-old brother, Zakir Mehdi oglu Safarov. Although the 72-hour detention period ordered by the court has expired, I believe artificial obstacles are being created to prevent his release. I hope that this won’t be the case, but honestly, I have little hope for them. However, I still believe that whatever happens, whatever we achieve in this matter, it will be possible thanks to the power of our state."
