Africa’s housing deficit has now exceeded 60 million units, and if current trends continue, this figure will reach 130 million units by 2030, UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach said during the “Africa Affordable Housing Compact – Deal Room Investor Session” held within the framework of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), APA-Economics reports.
She stated that the financing gap in Africa’s housing sector exceeds 1.4 trillion US dollars.
According to the head of UN-Habitat, Africa is currently experiencing one of the fastest urbanization processes in the world. By 2050, hundreds of millions of people are expected to move to cities across the continent.
A. Rossbach noted that the rapid growth of the urban population in the coming decades will further increase demand for housing, infrastructure, and essential urban services.
“These figures demonstrate the scale of the challenges Africa is facing,” she stressed.
