Committee chairman: Housing provision is not merely a social issue

“Housing provision is not merely a social issue. This problem does not emerge from a single factor," Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture, said during the event titled “Advancing Housing Through Multilateralism: From Global Commitments to Local Impact” held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.

He stated that certain solutions must be found due to the scale and complexity of the challenges: “Urban planning and migration are taking place at a faster pace. The scale of informal settlements is expanding. Multilateral cooperation is of great importance from this point of view. The experiences of different regions also demonstrate this. Governance should be improved, and development banks, the private sector and NGOs should be involved in this process. Financing is one of the most serious problems in this area. Innovative financing mechanisms are essential. An integrated plan is needed for sustainable housing provision. Improving living standards is very important in this regard. We can see the best example of this in the reconstruction and restoration works being carried out in the liberated territories.”
