ISOCARP representative: There is a serious shortage of qualified urban planning professionals worldwide

“There is a serious shortage of qualified urban planning professionals around the world," Frank Dhondt, a representative of the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP), said during one of the events held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.

According to Dhondt, there are not enough professional planners to implement the New Urban Agenda.

The ISOCARP representative added that the lack of accurate statistics and large-scale research in this field makes it difficult to determine the real scale of the problem.

Frank Dhondt stated that the organization is trying to apply a new approach to capacity development issues.

According to the representative, not only individual training programs, but also more systematic and methodologically grounded capacity development mechanisms should be developed.

He noted that, just as in urban planning processes, the development of human resources should also be carried out in a phased and planned manner.”
