Almaty Deputy Mayor signs Declaration of Intent to establish SPECA Climate Smart Cities Forum

A Declaration of Intent on the establishment of the SPECA Climate Smart Cities Forum has been signed by the Deputy Mayor of Almaty, Nurlan Abdirakhim, APA reports.

The declaration was signed during the forum titled “Special Forum of Cities: Housing Solutions for an Inclusive and Sustainable Urban Future,” held within the framework of WUF13.

Note that Kazakhstan's Almaty City has become the fifth member to join the founding framework of the Forum.

The SPECA Cities Forum is the first dedicated intercity cooperation platform established to ensure continuous policy exchange, peer learning, and joint engagement with multilateral processes, including the World Urban Forum and the UN climate negotiations, for the SPECA region. It was launched during COP29 held in Baku in November 2024 and operates within the broader framework of the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA). Established in 1998 and jointly managed by UNECE and UNESCAP, SPECA promotes regional cooperation and sustainable development in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
