Department Head: Reconstruction in liberated territories is being carried out based on modern urban planning

"Reconstruction in conflict-affected areas of Azerbaijan is ongoing," said Ramil Jahangirov, head of the department of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, during the event titled “Post-crisis housing provision: Finding sustainable solutions,” APA reports.

He stated that the situation in Azerbaijan’s conflict-affected territories had remained very severe for many years. According to Ramil Jahangirov, large-scale destruction occurred in those areas during the occupation period, and the regions suffered serious decline for nearly 30 years.

It was noted that people who were forced to leave their native lands as a result of the occupation lived as internally displaced persons. Although various support measures were provided to them by the state, they preserved their attachment to their hometowns and expressed their desire to return after the war.

He added that after the war, the government launched a large-scale restoration and reconstruction process. It was emphasized that the issue concerns not only the restoration of one or two cities, but the rebuilding of hundreds of villages and settlements.

It was noted during the speech that the reconstruction process is being carried out through a coordinated headquarters, with the involvement of various ministries, state agencies, and relevant institutions. The clearance of territories from mines and unexploded ordnance was also identified as one of the key priority areas.

It was stated that the reconstruction works are being implemented on the basis of modern urban planning. Within the framework of development documents consisting of thousands of pages, the long-term and sustainable development of the regions is envisaged.
