The ASAN model integrates volunteerism into people’s daily lives, while at the same time creating opportunities for volunteers to become part of civil society, Zarina Mirabdullayeva, Regional Coordinator for Europe and Central Asia at the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, said at the event titled “The ASAN Model in Urbanization: The Role of Public Services and Volunteerism” held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, APA reports.
She noted that this is also a very good opportunity for volunteers in terms of learning, taking their first professional steps, and learning how to communicate with people and communities: “I think this is a very beautiful form of organization. Spontaneous volunteerism is, of course, wonderful. But I think it is now time to move to a more systematic model of volunteerism supported by the state and supported by society.”
