Mexico City mayor: WUF13 is a strategic platform for shaping humanity’s urban future together

WUF13 is a strategic platform for exchanging experience and jointly shaping the urban future of humanity, Clara Brugada, Head of Government of Mexico City, said during the joint opening of the assemblies held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

“We need precisely this kind of open and inclusive urban multilateralism — a new vision and model of action for cities shaped with the participation of local governments and cities, based on social, economic, and environmental transformation,” Brugada emphasized.

She noted that the climate crisis cannot be separated from the housing problem and the growing financialization of the global economy:

“We cannot separate territorial issues from social inequality, because it is precisely these extreme inequalities that create poverty and exclusion.

The main theme of this forum conveys to us the collective cry of more than 3 billion people around the world deprived of decent housing.

Ensuring the right to decent housing is a central pillar of a broader agenda for territorial transformation aimed at realizing the right to the city.

We need revolutionary changes in the way we live and relate to nature worldwide.

That is why we call for building caring cities — cities that protect women, children, vulnerable groups, and people who have historically been forgotten and marginalized. Let us build cities where a person’s skin color, origin, or accent never becomes a pretext for the exclusion of the vulnerable.”
