The World Urban Forum was established as a platform where the voices of communities, women, civil society, and youth can influence urban policy, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Anacláudia Rossbach said during the joint opening of the assemblies held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
She noted that these approaches can also be integrated into everyday activities:
“We can also bring this into intergovernmental processes. This year, an important intergovernmental process awaits us. That process will take place in New York in July.
We are reviewing the outcomes achieved over the past 10 years under the New Urban Agenda approved by member states.
Many of you were with us in Quito in 2016.
Most importantly, we are looking to the future. We are thinking about what more can be achieved by 2030 during the next 10 years of the New Urban Agenda.
Together with member states and the host country, we have tried to connect various processes through a very innovative approach — namely the governance processes in Nairobi, headquarters activities, intergovernmental discussions in New York, the review process of the New Urban Agenda, and the World Urban Forum.”
