Chinese minister: Future of cities depends on joint efforts of countries worldwide

The future of cities and sustainable urbanization requires the joint efforts of all countries, China’s Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development Ni Hong said during the ministers’ meeting on the New Urban Agenda organized within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, China has achieved significant results over the past decade within the framework of implementing the New Urban Agenda. Currently, per capita housing space in the country exceeds 40 square meters.

The minister noted that China is creating a safe, comfortable, green, and smart living environment based on the concept of “good homes, good neighborhoods, good communities, and good cities.”

Ni Hong stated that the renovation of old residential areas, modernization of urban infrastructure, and improvement of the ecological environment are the main directions of this strategy.

“The Chinese government remains committed to supporting the United Nations Human Settlements Programme and continuing cooperation with countries around the world for the effective implementation of the New Urban Agenda,” he emphasized.
