Gabonese minister: 3 billion people worldwide live in inadequate housing conditions

More than 3 billion people worldwide live in inadequate housing conditions, while over 300 million people have no housing at all, Gabon’s Minister of Housing, Urban Planning and Cadastre, Ludovic Megne Ndong, said during the ministers’ meeting on the New Urban Agenda organized within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, urbanization levels exceeding 80% in Gabon have increased structural shortages in the housing sector, and the country currently faces a housing deficit of 300,000 units.

The minister noted that in order to address the problem, the government established the Gabon Housing Fund, expanded public-private partnerships, and launched the development of a data system covering more than 250 key indicators in the housing sector.

The Gabonese official stated that these steps will help direct investments more efficiently and expand citizens’ access to decent housing.
