Czech minister: Housing affordability, infrastructure needs and regional disparities are key challenges

Housing affordability, infrastructure needs, and development disparities between regions remain the main challenges in the field of urban development in the Czech Republic, Czech Minister for Regional Development Zuzana Mrazova said during the ministers’ meeting held within the framework of the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13), APA-Economics reports.

According to the minister, addressing these challenges requires stronger multilevel governance, better coordination among state institutions, and stable financing mechanisms.

She stated that the Czech Republic is committed to implementing the UN New Urban Agenda and considers the document the main international framework for sustainable urban development.

Mrazova noted that the country’s key priorities include ensuring affordable housing, improving access to basic services, climate-resilient and energy-efficient urban planning, as well as strengthening the institutional capacity of municipalities.

The minister emphasized that the Czech government views housing provision as a key element of social cohesion, regional stability, and economic opportunity.

According to her, the country will continue expanding cooperation in this area with local authorities, civil society, the private sector, and academic circles.
