“I would like to thank Azerbaijan on behalf of the Mexican government for organizing WUF13 at a high level,” a Mexican representative said during the ministers’ meeting held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, APA reports.
The representative noted that they are confident the initiatives and proposals put forward within the framework of the forum will be implemented in the future.
The representative stated that inclusivity and the central representation of people in decision-making processes are among the key factors of sustainable development.
It was emphasized that the principle of “leaving no one behind” should be the main approach in this direction.
The Mexican representative also stressed the importance of prioritizing the right to housing in state policy:
“Today, international discussions reflect two different approaches to the right to housing. The first approach recognizes housing as a fundamental human right and assumes that states bear responsibility for ensuring this right.”
The representative added that structural inequalities should not limit people’s access to rights and opportunities, and that state policy should be aimed precisely at eliminating these barriers.
