Since 2018, Azerbaijan has been implementing a more integrated and future-oriented approach to territorial planning, Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture Anar Guliyev said during the ministers’ meeting held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
He noted that this approach was shaped on the basis of Azerbaijan’s five national priorities for socio-economic development approved by President Ilham Aliyev in 2021:
“A large-scale modernization has been carried out in the field of territorial planning. Currently, the master plans of 68 out of 79 cities have been updated, while preparatory work is ongoing for the remaining 11 cities.
The Baku Master Plan 2040 is a key example of this new planning philosophy. The plan promotes a polycentric and compact city model, integrated public transport, a pedestrian-oriented urban environment, urban regeneration, and the creation of high-quality public spaces.
At the same time, Azerbaijan has strengthened construction legislation, building standards, and urban planning regulations, while the construction permit system has been fully digitalized.”
