WUF13: Global roadmap for a new era of urban development to be defined in Baku

WUF13 is an important platform that will guide the formation of new architectural and urban planning approaches for Azerbaijan, the region, and cities worldwide, Professor of the Academy of Sciences of Turkic-Speaking Countries and urban planning architect Jahid Hasanov told APA.

WUF13 will define the roadmap for a new era of urban development

He noted that WUF13 will serve as a roadmap defining the principles and models on which future urban development will be built: “WUF13 will bring together not only architects, but also ecologists, economists, experts from various fields, and relevant institutions. In this regard, the event will act as a bridge among participants, enabling ideas and projects developed in different countries to be presented and implemented internationally within a short time.”

He emphasized that the event is also a global platform for presenting new ideas and projects: “The initiatives presented within the framework of WUF13 are development models open to all countries and capable of practical application. This will stimulate the formation and advancement of new directions in architecture and urban planning that have not yet been widely implemented.”

New opportunities for building “smart cities” in liberated territories

The architect underlined that hosting such a prestigious event in Azerbaijan is of particular importance: “Especially in terms of implementing ‘smart city’ and ‘smart village’ concepts in the liberated territories, this forum comes at a very appropriate stage. WUF13 creates significant opportunities for carrying out reconstruction from scratch based on more modern approaches in these areas.”

Human factor and comfortable living environment are the main priorities

Hasanov described WUF13 as an important step toward ensuring comfortable living environments: “In this context, the development of all areas of architecture and urban planning is among the main priorities. Waste management and the concept of a circular economy also come to the forefront. The development of architecture and urban planning is not limited to this field alone, but requires the involvement of technology, natural resources, and related institutions. This creates the basis for sustainable development through the joint efforts of all stakeholders.”

He added that the process includes not only concepts such as ‘green city’, ‘smart city’, and ‘smart village’, but also issues such as natural lighting and ventilation of buildings, as well as modernization of sewage systems. Waste management systems in urban areas are important both for city cleanliness and from an economic perspective, and should develop simultaneously in ecological and economic directions.

He concluded that WUF13 will draw the attention of experts, media representatives, and the international community to Azerbaijan, contributing to expanded cooperation in urban planning and increased tourism flows.
