Azerbaijan Railways official reveals work on Horadiz–Aghband railway construction project

The first stage of the construction of the Horadiz-Aghband railway line covers the Horadiz-Yukhari Marjanli-Shukurbayli-Soltanli settlements, Javad Alovsatov, construction manager of the Construction Project Management Department of “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC, told journalists during a media tour of the Aghband settlement of Zangilan district, APA-Economics reports.

He said that most of the work on this stage has been completed, and cargo is currently being transported to the Araz Economic Industrial Park by rail:

“The second stage covers the Soltanli-Gumlag-Hakari-Minchivan stations. Earthworks and construction of engineering structures are continuing at this stage. Taking into account the relief of the road and the hydrogeological characteristics of the area, various types of bridges and protective reinforcement structures have been built here. It was at this stage that the longest railway bridge in Azerbaijan was built. The total length of the bridge is 771 meters, with 23 spans.”

J. Alovsatov noted that work on the third stage is also actively continuing. Earthworks and engineering structures, including the construction of 3 tunnels and 1 gallery, are underway. 71% of construction and insulation works in the tunnels have already been completed. Since the terrain in the gallery area located at the 99th kilometer of the railway line consists of steep and rocky rocks, there is a risk of rock falls onto the railway line. For this reason, the gallery was built in this section. The length of the gallery is 108 meters, and its structure is made of monolithic reinforced concrete.

J. Alovsatov noted that the total length of the Horadiz-Aghbend railway line is 110.4 kilometers, and together with the side roads, it is 140.6 kilometers. Currently, the installation of track structures along a length of 66 km has been completed. In general, the level of implementation of physical work on the project is 68%.

"The final completion date of the project depends on a number of technical and organizational factors. Therefore, the exact date has not been set," he added.
