WP: US Supreme Court questions legality of Trump's tariffs

At a hearing on Wednesday, members of the U.S. Supreme Court expressed doubts about the legal basis for the Trump administration's imposition of tariffs, APA reports citing The Washington Post.

According to the newspaper, the judges spent two and a half hours "harshly questioning" lawyers representing both the current administration and the plaintiffs, who represented local government officials and business representatives. The newspaper believes that the Supreme Court's "skepticism" regarding the legality of the tariffs may indicate that the judges will "strike down or limit at least some" of the tariffs imposed by Trump.

Axios , for its part, emphasizes that at least two Supreme Court justices, whose votes could be decisive in the final verdict, have "indicated they may be inclined" to limit the tariffs. "Some conservative justices have expressed skepticism about Trump's authority to impose such far-reaching tariffs," the outlet writes.
