Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Kamran Aliyev discussed prospects for legal cooperation with international partners, the Press Service of the Prosecutor General’s Office told APA.
A delegation led by Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev paid an official visit to the Federative Republic of Brazil, during which bilateral meetings were held with the Prosecutors General of Brazil, Spain, and Portugal.
During the meeting with Paulo Gonet, the Prosecutor General of Brazil, the sides discussed the high-level relations between the two countries, the strengthening of cooperation between law enforcement agencies, the fight against crime, environmental protection, joint efforts against climate-related crimes, continued mutual support within international organizations, as well as the implementation status of legal assistance and extradition requests in criminal cases.
At the meeting, the Prosecutor General also expressed gratitude to the Brazilian side for the effective cooperation provided during the investigation of the criminal case related to the AZAL aircraft accident.
In the meeting with Amadeu Guerra, the Prosecutor General of the Portuguese Republic, Kamran Aliyev noted that, under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, large-scale reforms have been implemented in Azerbaijan, resulting in a systemic fight against corruption. He expressed Azerbaijan’s interest in learning from and applying Portugal’s positive experience in this field.
For his part, Amadeu Guerra provided information about the Ministério Público (Public Prosecutor’s Office) and MENAC (National Mechanism Against Corruption), emphasizing the importance of developing bilateral relations and strengthening joint efforts to combat all forms of crime, while expressing interest in studying Azerbaijan’s positive experience in these areas.
At the meeting with Álvaro García Ortiz, the Prosecutor General of the Kingdom of Spain, discussions focused on combating crime, environmental protection, enhancing joint efforts against climate-related crimes, and reviewing the implementation of legal assistance and extradition requests in specific criminal cases.
As part of the visit, meetings were also held with delegations from China, Russia, Paraguay, and other countries.
During the meetings, held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust, the parties discussed the future development and expansion of inter-institutional cooperation.
Rafiq Rustamov, Adviser to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Federative Republic of Brazil, also attended the meetings.
