Trump and Starmer differ over recognition of Palestinian state amid Hamas conflict

U.S. President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer have expressed differing views on the recognition of the State of Palestine, APA reports.

Trump commented on the issue while answering journalists’ questions at a joint briefing with Starmer, describing it as “one of several disagreements” between them.

Starmer noted that he had an approximately one-hour private discussion with Trump on foreign policy, emphasizing that recognizing the State of Palestine is an important step toward a two-state solution.

Trump, however, placed blame on Hamas, citing the group’s failure to treat hostages humanely. Describing October 7 as one of the worst days in the world, Trump said he had seen violent acts committed by Hamas and did not want to witness such events. He added that he hopes the conflict can be halted.

Trump also criticized Hamas for placing hostages in the line of attack and reiterated that he holds a different position from Starmer regarding the recognition of Palestine.
