Indictment completed in Imamoglu’s fake diploma case, prosecutors seek up to 8 years in prison

The indictment against Ekrem Imamoglu, who was removed from his post as mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and arrested, has been completed in the diploma investigation, APA reports citing NTV. 

As part of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was alleged that Ekrem Imamoglu's diploma was fake.

The indictment sought a prison sentence of up to 8 years and 9 months for Imamoglu on the charge of "forgery of an official document."

Note that an investigation was launched some time ago based on findings and anonymous reports suggesting that Imamoglu's diploma was fake.

Istanbul University announced that the diplomas of 28 individuals, including İmamoğlu, were revoked due to being “nonexistent” and containing “obvious technical errors.
