Morocco to eliminate slums before 2030 FIFA World Cup

Morocco plans to completely eliminate slum neighborhoods in the country by 2030, Adib Benbrahim, Morocco’s State Secretary for Urban Planning, Housing and Urban Policy, said during the ministerial roundtable titled “From Political Commitment to Readiness for Implementation” held within the framework of WUF13, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, over the past 25 years, the housing shortage in the country has decreased by 75%, while the number of slum neighborhoods has declined by 80%.

Benbrahim noted that Morocco will co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup together with Spain and Portugal, and has set the goal of completely eliminating slums by that date.
