Significant progress achieved on several issues in talks with Iran - JD Vance

JD Vance said that significant progress had been achieved on several issues in talks with Iran.

Vance made the remarks during a press conference at the White House.

“There has been a lot of progress on both sides. Important progress is being made. But we are simply going to continue working on this, and in the end we will either reach an agreement or we will not. I think it is important that we conduct these conversations privately. Because sometimes, when you are negotiating and, you know, revealing everything publicly, it actually makes things more difficult than they need to be,” Vance said.

Emphasizing that major progress had been achieved in the negotiations, Vance noted that they also believed the Iranian side wanted an agreement.

“President Donald Trump instructed us to negotiate in good faith, and that is exactly what we are doing. So we are in quite a good place right now. But there is a Plan B. Plan B is that we could resume the military campaign to further advance the United States’ objectives. The President does not want that. I do not think the Iranians want that either,” he added.

Vance also expressed confidence that the United States and Iran had an opportunity to reach an agreement and rebuild bilateral relations.

“I think we have an opportunity here to rebuild relations between Iran and the United States that have existed for 47 years. The President asked us to do that, and we will continue working on it. But it takes two to tango. We are not going to enter into an agreement that allows the Iranians to possess a nuclear weapon,” the Vice President said.
