On April 1, a phone conversation was held between Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov and Portugal’s Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Paulo Rangel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.
During the phone conversation, the ministers discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Portugal, as well as regional and international security issues.
The Portuguese minister noted that a decision had been made to upgrade his country’s diplomatic representation in Azerbaijan and to open an embassy in the country. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed his gratitude for this decision.
The ministers emphasized the importance of the political consultations mechanism and mutual visits in developing bilateral relations. Existing opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, energy, trade, transport, and tourism were reviewed.
The sides also touched upon cooperation within international organizations and noted the importance of continuing mutual support.
The ministers expressed concern over the growing military escalation in the Middle East and emphasized the necessity of a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
The ministers also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
