Woman taken hostage with her infant children during Khojaly genocide testifies at court

On July 11, a court hearing at the Baku Military Court continued with testimonies from individuals who suffered as a result of the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenian armed forces.

The victim Mehriban Bakirova stated that during the Khojaly genocide on the night of February 25-26, 1992, she was taken hostage by Armenian armed forces, brought to Khankendi and held captive there for ten days. At that time, she had four young children, including a newborn baby. Her one-and-a-half-year-old son suffered a shrapnel wound to the head. She was subjected to torture while in captivity, and was demanded to provide information about her husband, Abdulla Hamzayev, who worked as a police officer at the Khojaly airport.

In response to the prosecutorchr("39")s question, she said that even before the genocide, Khojaly was regularly shelled, which forced them to take shelter in the basement, where she gave birth to her baby on February 23.

Victim Avaz Abbasov, a resident of Karkijahan, said that in 1989, Armenians threw a grenade at him and his brother: "I was a third-grade student, and my brother Eyvaz was in first grade. A group of people approached us and said they would take revenge on Azerbaijanis. When I tried to call for help, they threw a grenade at us. My brother was killed, and I was severely wounded. I received treatment in hospitals in Shusha, Aghdam, and Baku."

Abbasov also said that his other brother was shot by Armenians and later became a martyr in the battles for the defense of Shusha.
