"Turning Guadeloupe into a legal dependency of France means its subjugation," said Abbas Abbasov, Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), at the thematic conference titled "Towards the Decolonization of Guadeloupe! Challenges and Perspectives," APA reports.
He noted that as a result of the colonial policies implemented by France, a large portion of Guadeloupe's population faces unemployment:
"According to the United Nations Development Programme report, the unemployment rate here is 20 percent. Cultural studies show that Guadeloupe's culture has been weakened. As the Baku Initiative Group, we do not accept any forms of colonialism and emphasize the necessity of Guadeloupe's decolonization."
