UNDP: The approach to water systems in the urban context is of particular importance

We are currently living in a period of climate crisis, Head of Disaster Risk Reduction, Recovery and Resilience Building at the Crisis Bureau of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ronald Jackson said during a panel discussion held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.

He stated that one of the main areas of activity of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the application of a systematic approach to urban development.

According to him, the “Resilient Urban Futures” program serves exactly this purpose:

“Within this framework, we assess the city as a system, identify the key variables that ensure its functioning, and seek to direct investments toward areas that sustainably meet the needs of urban residents. For example, our ‘Hands On’ program is dedicated to managing the risks of heatwaves and high temperatures. We acknowledge that we are currently living in a period of climate crisis. In the urban context, the approach to water and water systems is also of particular importance. We must build water supply systems that can both meet the needs of city residents and minimize the negative impact of water on the urban environment,” he emphasized.
