At least 72 people have died and more than 130 have been injured after ten days of relentless monsoon rains and flash floods swept across Pakistan, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The deaths, reported since June 26, occurred in multiple provinces including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan. Officials warn that more rainfall is expected, potentially triggering further floods and road blockages, News.Az reports, citing foreign sources.
Emergency services remain on high alert. Last month’s tragedy in Swat, where 17 tourists from the same family were swept away by a river, has intensified public criticism over the government's disaster response. Only four members of the group survived.
Authorities are urging tourists to avoid vulnerable regions and have not ruled out extreme weather events similar to the catastrophic 2022 floods that killed over 1,700 people and submerged a third of the country.
