Azerbaijan reveals reason for investigation into events in Yekaterinburg

Clarification has been made regarding the investigation being conducted in Azerbaijan related to the events in Yekaterinburg, APA reports.

Ilgar Safarov, the Senior Assistant to the Prosecutor General on special assignments, said in response to APA's question that the Azerbaijani side does not intend to interfere in the internal affairs of any state or institution: "However, if during the process cruelty is shown towards one or more Azerbaijani citizens, and their rights are massively violated, it is one of the duties of the Azerbaijani state to respond to this incident."

It was noted that this is also reflected in the Azerbaijani Criminal Procedure Code: "One reason for our sensitive approach to this issue is that we have not seen the official position of the Russian law enforcement agencies. We do not intend to accuse anyone, nor are we doing so. We do not have expert opinions confirming the occurrence of the incident, especially the death. Instead, there are reports in the Russian media linking the death to various illnesses. In the current situation, this would be an unprofessional approach because autopsies have been ordered for the bodies brought to Azerbaijan. Attributing the cause of death to illness is not very reasonable. Forensic expertise has institutionally developed in Russia. We believe that the statements from Russian law enforcement agencies will be different, and we will be able to review more substantiated opinions."
