Ramil Iskandarli, Acting Secretary General of the Global South NGO participated in the “Climate Innovation Forum 2025” held in London on June 25–26.
The forum, organized by the Climate Action Organization and held at the historic Guildhall, gathered more than 2,000 representatives from global business, finance, and civil society sectors.
Key speakers included the UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Edward Miliband, COP29 President-Designate and Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for climate issues Mukhtar Babayev, Brazil’s Minister of the Environment and Climate Change Marina Silva, UK Special Representative for Climate Rachel Kyte, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29 Azerbaijan Nigar Arpadarai, and others.
The event also featured the launch of the publication “Becoming Nature Positive: Transitioning to a Safe and Just Future.” During the launch, the Global South NGO Platform’s work was highlighted. Acting Secretary-General Ramil Iskandarli stated: “The vision of this publication’s authors aligns with ours: to ensure a just, inclusive, and sustainable future for all. The Global South, being the most affected by climate change, must be at the heart of the nature-based positive transition. We are committed to enabling large-scale, inclusive, and de-risked climate finance solutions in the Global South. The Platform calls for the voices of Global South civil society institutions to be heard in climate decision-making. We will continue contributing to this effort and serve as a space for dialogue. This means ensuring climate finance is distributed fairly, with dignity, and based on trust.”
The Global South NGO Platform, established on April 28, 2025, in Baku with participation from NGOs from 116 countries, held its first side event on June 19 in Bonn. Titled “Uniting for a Just World: Strengthening South-South Solidarity and Partnerships for Equitable Climate Solutions,” it was held during the 62nd session (SB62) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Subsidiary Bodies. The event brought together 47 NGO representatives and climate activists from 32 countries.
Iskandarli noted that key insights from the Bonn discussions were voiced at the Climate Innovation Forum - 2025 in London.
The Platform’s recent activities in New York, Bonn, and London show its strong commitment to narrowing the gap between the Global North and Global South, fostering inclusive dialogue, and building trust.
It is worth noting that on May 29, 2025, in New York, Dima Al-Khatib, Director of the UN Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), publicly welcomed the creation of the Global South NGO Platform.
